The History of Viagra

It’s the most famous little blue pill in the world, but did you know it was created by accident? Pfizer was working on a drug for the treatment of hypertension and angina pectoris, but during clinical trials, researchers quickly realized that the drug was more effective at inducing erections than treating heart problems. Pfizer knew that there was an unmet need for an oral treatment for erectile dysfunction, and immediately pivoted in their approach. After its FDA approval in 1998, Viagra hit the market as the first oral treatment for erectile dysfunction, achieving sales of close to $2 billion in its first 10 years and changing the approach to ED for good.
