The Trix name got its start when General Mills unveiled Trix Cereal in the 1950s, which quickly caught on. However, in the 1990s, sugary cereals began to fall out of favor and healthier foods like yogurt began to grow in popularity. In response, General Mills licensed the Trix name and its famous rabbit mascot to Yoplait to create Trix Yogurt. In 1992, Yoplait introduced Trix Yogurt in several flavors, including Strawberry Banana Bash, Raspberry Rainbow, Triple Cherry, and Rainbow Punch (Watermelon Burst and Cotton Candy were introduced shortly after). Notably, each cup contained a serving of dual-colored yogurt, which was highly appealing to children. As a result, Trix Yogurt became extremely popular throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. However, Greek yogurt began to crowd out other styles of yogurt as consumers continued to gravitate toward healthier options, and in 2016, Trix Yogurt was discontinued. However, following the recent trend toward nostalgia for the 1990s and Y2K era, Yoplait reintroduced Trix Yogurt in 2021. Today, there are two flavors available at select retailers — Strawberry and Berry.
