The History of Teva Sandals

The Teva brand was founded in 1984 by geophysicist and avid rafter Mark Thatcher. Since then, Teva sandals have been widely worn, but in the past they’ve never been considered particularly trendy or fashionable. Instead, their chief appeal was their practical nature. With their thick soles and Velcro straps, it is clear that Thatcher designed them with durability and ease of use in mind. However, the early 2020s have seen a distinct footwear phenomenon commonly referred to as the “ugly shoe” trend. Bulky, boxy, and overtly practical footwear options are now often considered fashionable and trendy. Teva’s Original collection has become extremely popular, especially the Hurricane XLT2 shoe. New platform options have also gained the brand plenty of attention from fashionistas. Interpretations of the famous Teva silhouette by other brands have also become quite popular. Today, Tevas are still associated with travel, adventure, and the outdoors, yet they are now chosen to complete a fashionable outfit just as often as they are worn for their practicality during activities like hiking and canoeing.
