The History of Sugar Cookies

Sugar cookies are a simple but delicious treat that many of us associate with holidays, birthdays, and other happy memories. But did you know that sugar cookies have actually been around since the mid-1700s? They were created by German Protestant settlers in Nazareth, Pennsylvania and were first known as “Nazareth cookies.” They gained national popularity and, in fact, they are so universally beloved today that Pennsylvania made them the official state cookie. Sugar cookies are simple to whip up and extremely enjoyable, making them a popular choice for Christmas cookies for Santa Claus and other family traditions.
