The History of Revlon Lipstick

Revlon began selling lipstick in 1939 and introduced the new product line through the "Lips and Fingertips" campaign, which featured matching shades of lipstick and nail polish. In 1957, Revlon released the famous “Fire and Ice” lipstick and nail polish campaign featuring model Dorian Leigh photographed by Richard Avedon. That same year, Revlon also released “The American Look” campaign featuring model Suzy Parker. Soon after, 1961 saw the launch of Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Color, which is still immensely popular today. In 1970, Revlon released the first American beauty ad featuring a Black model, Naomi Sims, wearing Revlon lipstick. In 1991, Revlon ColorStay lipstick was released and was notably marketed as the first non-transfer lipstick. In 2016, Revlon Ultra HD Lipstick debuted; the line featured a series of on-trend matte shades. Today, Revlon lipstick remains immensely popular and is considered a classic American brand with a wide range of shades and formulations to choose from.
