The History of Parkas

Did you know that the parka was originally created for the United States military? The army green fabric construction and furry hood helped keep flight crews and infantrymen warm in cold climates. The “fishtail” parka, which could be tied around the upper leg for additional insulation against the wind, was used during the Korean War in the 1950s. In the 1960s, parkas became a fashion item when the Mods began wearing them. Then parkas became associated with certain Indie bands, such as Oasis, in the 1990s. Today, the parka helps to keep many people warm and is available in a variety colors so that you can make whatever fashion statement you’d like – including simply that you like to be warm!
