The History of Mickey Bars

A fan favorite at Disney Parks, Mickey Bars are exactly what they sound like — ice cream bars shaped to look like Mickey Mouse. However, they weren’t always like this! Mickey Bars, also known as Mickey’s Premium Ice Cream Bars, were first introduced in Disney Parks in 1985. At the time, they had more of an oval shape. The original version also featured chocolate and vanilla ice cream with a chocolate coating, but this was later changed to a simple vanilla ice cream base covered in a chocolate coating. Even more significantly, the bars were redesigned to feature the iconic Mickey Mouse silhouette in the 1990s, when improvements in technology made the more complex shape possible. Today, Mickey Bars are massively popular and park guests consume over 5 million of them each year at Disneyland and Walt Disney World. They are also popular at grocery stores because back in 2019, Disney and Nestle partnered to make the frozen treats available to everyday consumers in honor of Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday, which the character celebrated at the tail end of 2018!
