The History of IKEA’s KYRRE Stool

IKEA’s 3-legged stool was originally designed by the famous furniture chain’s founder, Ingvar Kamprad, in 2004. Kamprad was inspired by his first job — milking cows on his family’s farm. In fact, he based his design for a 3-legged stool on traditional milking stools. It remained an IKEA staple for many years. Then in 2019, IKEA rolled out an updated, modern version of the 3-legged stool — KYRRE. It featured a lightweight construction and 3 sturdy legs. Today, it is still available and currently comes in two color options: plain birch and bright blue. The stool is often favored by design firms due to its eye-catching appearance and its simple, modern lines make it a favorite in modernist homes all across the world, too.
