The History of Google

Google is the foremost search engine in the world, but how did this tech giant get its start? The company was founded in 1996 by Larry Page and Sergey Brin, who wanted to find a way to better organize search results online. They created Google, which ordered search results based on the importance of a webpage rather than how many times a specific keyword was used on the page. Google began selling ads in 1999 and grew so much that by the mid-2000s, users were performing over a billion searches a day and the verb “to Google” had been added to the dictionary. Today, Google continues to grow and influence our lives.
