Most Americans associate fireworks with the Fourth of July. But many historians believe that fireworks were actually created in China in the second century B.C. The first fireworks were thought to be bamboo stalks that exploded with a bang when thrown into a fire. It was only sometime during the period from 600 - 900 AD that a Chinese alchemist supposedly created an early version of gunpowder and poured it into bamboo sticks and paper tubes, creating what we recognize today as fireworks!
