Daisy Duck was created by Walt Disney Studios but was first known as “Donna Duck” when she made her first appearance in 1937’s Don Donald as Donald Duck’s girlfriend. Her name was later changed to Daisy Duck in 1940’s Mr. Duck Steps Out. Daisy Duck appeared in a total of 14 Disney films, often alongside Donald Duck as a supporting character. In fact, she only appeared in one film as a main character, 1947’s Donald’s Dilemma. While she is typically depicted as being interested in Donald Duck, she is usually shown as being more sophisticated than him. Notably, she is also considered to be Minnie Mouse’s best friend. Daisy Duck made her debut in the Disney comics shortly after being introduced on the big screen. In the comics, she was eventually given three nieces named April, May, and June; they first appeared in February 1953’s Walt Disney’s Comics & Stories no. 149. While Daisy Duck’s film appearances were somewhat limited, she was given far more screen time in Disney’s various television programs and was featured regularly on Quack Pack, Mickey Mouse Works, House of Mouse, and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. She also appeared in several direct-to-video films, including Mickey’s Once Upon a Christmas and The Three Musketeers. Today, Daisy Duck remains a beloved Disney character who appears in a wide range of Disney media and is also part of the Disney Parks experience.
