Christmas stockings are a popular decoration seen in many homes during the holidays. But where did the tradition originate? One legend holds that it was St. Nicholas himself who introduced the concept of Christmas stockings while secretly delivering money and other presents to children. Another legend holds that Christmas stockings originated with the Dutch story of Sinterklaas, who would place small treats and toys in children’s clogs. It is thought that when the Dutch came to America, Sinterklaas became Santa Claus and the wooden clogs were replaced with stockings.
