The History of Barbecue Grills

It’s a staple of American summers, but did you know that the barbecue grill is a relatively recent invention? It was originally created in 1952 by George Stephen, a welder at Weber Brothers Metal Works in Mount Prospect, Illinois. Before that, people only cooked outside occasionally and had to use an imprecise contraption that often left food simultaneously charred on the outside and undercooked on the inside. George Stephen’s barbecue grill was easier to use and helped to popularize the ritual of outdoor grilling that millions of Americans enjoy today!
